Answer 1 :
Both have great sports and an active nightlife. Chicago has numerous sports leagues if you enjoy playing sports (football, dodgeball, volleyball, kickball, basketball, soccer....). Chicago journalism job market is pretty tough. Most of the newspapers have been laying people off. Chicago is much cheaper to live in than NYC which may be a factor for someone fresh out of college.
Answer 2 :
i wonder about Chicago as well, but I know NY and it is not a place for sports. Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island have teams and fields, but not Manhattan. Each of the boroughs is like a separate city, but to be a journalist freelance it'd be great to live in a borough, if you want a job in Manhattan it might be beneficial to live there, but it's very expensive and harder to find a place, and just travel on the weekend to sports places. NY does have night life everywhere though
Answer 3 :
I went to college in a small college town, even though you complain about being in a small town I wouldn't change it for the world, I think that's part of the experience being in a crappy little town with all students. Chicago is a real city with students living in it, the school I went to in Southern IL, had nothing but students, its not even like real life, all college students, things get a lot crazier, if you like to party I recommend Eastern or Southern. You can do internship programs over the summer in Chicago. It's also much cheaper doing it this way.
Answer 4 :
Chi-Town is the best we are cheaper the NYC, Chicago is a party city
