When living on a college campus in New York by law what are the rules and regulations that allowed a RA to key into your bed room? I am a student living on campus having problems with my RA because she feels as though she has all rights and duties to key into our bedrooms whenever she feels like it. I know my rights as a citizen but what are my actual rights as a student living on campus?

If it is a private college, then the staff has the right to enter your room whenever they want, subject to the university's policies. If it is a public college, then normal laws would apply, meaning that she needs either 1) probable cause that you have done something wrong, 2) an emergency like a fire drill, or 3) a roommate's permission. Generally the rules are very broad. RAs can key in to check on a resident that has been drinking, for example. But if she is randomly keying in for no reason, then you should file a complaint with the director or whoever supervises the RAs.
