About going to college in New York City

About going to college in New York City?
Will it cost me more to attend a CUNY if I'm a resident of an Upstate NY city? Pros and cons of the city in general? (I know it's wildly expensive, BTW) Where is the ideal (safest) area to live (if you suffer from paranoia? Out of City College, Hunter College, Brooklyn College, City Tech, Queens College, and Pace University, which is the best of those colleges? Is it ideal to go to a CUNY with an Undecided Major? What else should I take into consideration about college life in New York City?

For a full-time student at any of the four year CUNY colleges the instate tuition is $4,830 per year. That applies to a person who lives anywhere in NY State. That isn't very expensive at all by the standards of college tuition. NYC that dangerous these days. The are so many neighborhoods that a person would feel pretty safe in, I couldn't list the all. The trick is finding a place you could afford. It would help to know which campus you were actually going to. In my opinion, Queens and Hunter are the best schools on your list. Lots of kids start school undecided. Why should you know what you want to study yet, at your age? After a year or so, you'll know.

If I go to a community college in New York for 2 years can I then claim residency when I apply to a university

If I go to a community college in New York for 2 years can I then claim residency when I apply to a university?
I live in Georgia. I want to go to New York, stay with my grandparents, and attend a community college near them to get my GPA up. If I go to a community college for a year or two, could I then claim residency when I apply to a University? How long do I have to live there to be considered a resident in a college's eyes?

Answer 1 :
You have to be in an established residence for 6 months before you can claim residency in a state. So in other words, if you live with your grandparents for 6 months, then you legally live in New York. My best friend actually set up a PO box in NC, to establish residency. She was staying in a dorm when her parents moved from NC up to MD, and even just having a PO Box in her name in NC was enough to claim residency for her college.

How do I get into college for New York

How do I get into college for New York?
I currently am a junior in high school in Louisiana and I want to go to college in New York for massage therapy. I really want to move to New York and start a new life, of course visiting my family for holidays. So my questions are: How much does it cost to live in New York for basic needs? How does one become a resident of New York? Also, have you moved to another state and either regretted it or happy you did it?

I live in New York and let me tell ya, it's expensive. You're probably 15-17 years old right? I don't think you would be able to live in the city. Depending on the neighborhood though, if you're planning to live in Manhattan you can get a fairly small apartment for around 500 a month. If you have a car parking will be horrific, but you're going to have to move around it'll be the MTA. The fare is 2.25 a ride, so 2 rides is around 4.50 a day. You can get a monthly metrocard (pass that allows you unlimited rides for a month) for 89 dollars. I guess food is decent around here a regular supermarket visit every week sheds me around 50 dollars, so around 200 dollars a month for groceries. My bills total to around 300 dollar a month, includes gas, electric, water and cellphone. 500 dollars + 89 dollars a month + 200 dollars + 300 = 1089 dollars a month for the barebones. It would be hard, I don't think you should move to New York for school... Unless you're dorming and your parents are paying. Good luck. And no, I've never moved to a new state.
Answer 2 :
I always love change and i look at it more like an opportunity to do well and better. New York is definitely an expensive place but it is also loaded with opportunities for massage therapists with the best salons and massage parlors located there. Also it is well connected by trains so you can stay a little far away from the city and avoid the pricey apartments. You can find massage schools close to where you live, Massage Register is a good place to go look for schools that help you get a license/certificate to practice massage therapy. You can request for free information from the schools in new york and decide which school you like the best. All the best for your future!

Answer 1 :
Rankings wise, Columbia is a clear choice. However, since you're more artistic, I would suggest NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Answer 2 :
suck my wee wee and i'll tell you
Answer 3 :
Hey i go to nyu and i think its awesome for art..i mean lady gaga went here lol..try tisch
Answer 4 :
There are tons of schools in New York, and tons of art schools! If you're looking for a school where you can do the arts as well as other things, NYU is great. They have great academics and arts. Columbia is the most renowned school in the city, it's an ivy league, but there you wouldn't focus on art. There are also tons of art schools. FIT, Pratt, SVA, Cooper Union are the most famous. Cooper Union is a very small and HIGHLY SELECTIVE school. It's very very good for art, and the best part is that it's completely free, but it's not a campus school. Pratt is in brooklyn and it's great for all kinds of art. Lots of famous people have gone there. FIT is also a good school, not as good as Pratt or Cooper, and SVA is at the lower level...but still good. Hope this helped!
