Do you mean NYC? Or NY state? I don't know how good the state schools are, but Cornell is in New York and it is a top engineering/physics school. It is private, so it is expensive, but it is highly ranked.
Answer 2 :
One of the best colleges in the world for physics (especially applied physics, engineering physics, and astrophysics) is Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. It's tough to get in and extremely hard once you're there though. For undergrad though I always thought it's better to pick a college that offers your major and would be a good overall fit for you (social, financial, recreational, etc) and not worry so much about the departmental rankings (save that for graduate school). Undergraduate education is a holistic experience and shortchanging yourself in other aspects of your college life can make you miserable.
Answer 3 :
Do you want the best or do you want a fair price? Columbia is the best. SUNY and CUNY has a fair price.
Answer 4 :
Columbia. It's long had one of the world's preeminent physics departments. Be sure to take financial aid into account when evaluating costs. Some of the most expensive schools have some of the most generous financial aid policies. They will always make it possible for you to attend, and often, when room and board are taken into account, the cost of attending an Ivy is lower than the cost of attending a state.
