What is the best college in New York

What is the best college in New York?
I want to go to college up north. So here's 3 questions I need answered. 1. I live in a small town, do you think I can handle a big city?( I've been to Atlanta a few times) 2. What's the best degree to get if I plan on staying in NY? 3. Is NY very dangerous like everyone says?

Answer 1 :
I don't think living in NY is dangerous. York College / CUNY is one of the best college in NY.
Answer 2 :
1. Yeah you can adjust to it. 2. Business, Arts, Technology (Engineer or Computers) or Criminal Justice. 3. No it's not. The best college to go to depends on what you will major in. I am currently searching for MBA Programs in New York.
Answer 3 :
You will lose the in-state tuition and acceptance preferences, so the private schools in NYC are also worth considering. The best by far is Columbia University [disclosure - long family history with the school]. The various CUNYs are mostly quite good - Hunter, City College and Baruch are my favorites and the highest ranked. As to your questions: 1. Who knows until you try. Many are overwhelmed, and many thrive there. It is not comparable to Atlanta though - it is a different world. 2. I think a basic business degree is your best bet. Also consider a degree in elementary education or a BS-Nursing. 3. Lots of creepy people in NYC and they are visible. Some places you don't go - the same as in Atlanta. Otherwise, it is okay if you use common sense. If you want to get out of small-town deep South, consider enlisting [Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard but Not the USMC - terrible mistake on my part]. Decent pay and superb educational benefits [thanks to then-Senator Obama] after you complete your active duty.

What SUNY (State University of New York) college can I go to for pre-medicine

What SUNY (State University of New York) college can I go to for pre-medicine?
I want to be a heart surgeon. I have been looking, but I do not see anything along the lines of surgical, heart, or even cancer medicine. I need your help. Anyone of those three can help me out. Thank you. I need an actual name of a college, if possible. Thank you.

Answer 1 :
If you're pre-med, then look into any 4 year college that has a good biology or chemistry department. Those are the 2 most common undergrads for pre-med students. But, if you want to save some money, do your general education reqs at a community college (your writing, history, foreign language, etc). Then you can progress to your undergraduate degree and then apply to medical schools. You have to finish medical school before you can specialize (cardiology, oncology, etc). Good luck:-)
Answer 2 :
In all reality, any of them offering biology will do. Med students come from a variety of backgrounds (biology or chemistry or biochem or whatever). You don't have to have a special "pre-med" tag on your major like some places offer. You don't even have to actually be any specific major, as long as you meet the minimal course requirements for the medschool and learn enough to do well on your MCATs. In terms of name recognition, you might want to look into SUNY Buffalo. Other things to keep in mind: you might also consider looking at SUNY schools with a med school (Buffalo has one) as it might make life easier in the long run if you don't have to move after undergrad. You might also consider places that will give you the best chance to "pad your resume" in order to make your application look better. Things that help are volunteering at a hospital, or even undergraduate research (again, a bigger school with a graduate program in science of some sort will make that easier). Note: never tell anyone your reason for doing anything is to pad your resume :P
Answer 3 :
Columbia university of physicians and surgeons.. try this website.. http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/
Answer 4 :
You need a school with a good science curriculum.I would reccommend the Human Ecology School at Cornell or the Agriculture and Life Sience at Cornell. Both are part of SUNY. Both have very good science and you can get into med school from either. Each of the SUNY schools has some things that they are known for. None of them can do better than Cornell. Check them out.

Answer 1 :
Pre med and medicine are not majors for an undergrad. You must pick a major and you can look for a college with a good pre med program. NY has a lot of schools and you should be able to find a state school in NY that has a good pre med program= tuition will be lower if you stay in NY at a state school
