Answer 1 :
Are you moving to *NYC* for school, or hyde park, or somewhere else? Get to know the basic geography (which borough is where, for starters) for your own sanity and safety. Everything else will become clear after you move here.
Answer 2 :
Get used to living a very fast life. Learn the transit system. Get familiar with the buses and the trains around wherever you'll be living. Avoid staring up at the buildings on crowded streets. People can be very nice, but don't expect everyone to go out of their way to be nice. Enjoy
Answer 3 :
I'm from a very small town and went to nyc for school just over a year ago. I adapted really easily. thought there would be a big culture shock.... but there wasn't, it just... happened. I generally love it. You might get sick of small spaces and no privacy. Area-wise, midtown can be too industrial for my taste. I live downtown now and its nicer. Cooler people, fun (looking) bars, more culture. Brooklyn has cheaper rent and more space living-wise, but it's not nearly as convenient and there's less to do. If you LOATH loud noise and crowds you might hate it. Also, it gets cold and the wind gets INSANE. And 80% of people here are insane in one way or another haha. You can get nearly anything delivered (delivery.com and seamless.com). Grocery stores close kinda early.
Answer 4 :
No.

can i apply for a green card then go to college in new york

can i apply for a green card then go to college in new york?
Hi. I live in Barbados and I'm trying to get into Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York. If I apply as an international student the tuition fee is roughly about $12,600 US per semester converted to Barbados Dollars it would be $25000 Barbados Dollars per semester. The cost of tuition as a resident is $3150 per semester which is way cheaper than the $25000 mentioned above. Can I obtain a Green Card then make my way into college paying a cheaper tuition fee?

Answer 1 :
Not possible at all, or else every foreign student on a student visa would have done it already. The easiest/most common ways to get a green card is through sponsorship by a family member or an employer. You can't just apply on your own, someone has to file the petition for you.
Answer 2 :
No ..you cannot just get a green card
Answer 3 :
No, sorry it does not work that way. If you enter for educational purposes, you can not apply for a green card.
Answer 4 :
Not unless you have an immediate family member or an employer who can petition for you.

Do you know any inexpensive liberal arts college in New York or New Jersey

Do you know any inexpensive liberal arts college in New York or New Jersey?
I've been researching liberal arts colleges as of recently, but a lot of them are very expensive! I've barely seen any under $40,000. So, if you attend, or know of, an inexpensive, yet still good, liberal arts college in the New Jersey/New York area that does not require me having a trust fund, can you please tell me so I can look it up. Thank you =]

Answer 1 :
Most liberal arts colleges are excellent with financial aid. Don't get scared away by the "sticker price" - at many of those schools a huge percentage of students get merit-based scholarships. Tuition at my school was listed as $36,000, but I don't know anyone who paid that. So continue your search for less-expensive schools, but reconsider the financial aid you might get from the schools you've already looked at.
Answer 2 :
If you are a NYS student, the SUNY schools are great, especially Binghamton, Geneseo and Buffalo. At Alfred University [not Alfred State], you can enroll in the state-supported part of the college [for fine art or ceramic engineering, etc.] and pay less tuition. Don't know the tuition at, say, Ithaca College or Nazareth College, but you might look them up.
